It's Sad To say but it is officially the end of the Choco taco era. Klondike confirmed that they are ending the infamous "Choco Taco", the most beloved & Innovated of all american ice cream "Novelties A vanilla ice cream Sugar cone taco, covered in chocolate and nuts.
social media took storm this past weekend with an image of a Choco Taco tombstone. Klondike explained on Twitter: “We’ve experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide.” That portfolio of ice cream products includes: square-shaped Klondike bars, shakes in a pouch, and caramel and vanilla cones.

The Choco Taco, was one of my favorite klondike's product. a Sugar cone shaped like a taco, stuffed with vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate and nuts. The combination of ice cream and a taco, i think was one of the most innovative things when it came out. Every Summer it was a must have dessert from the neighborhood ice cream truck that would stroll around. It was always a hard decision for me when the ice cream truck came, having tough decisions from firecracker popsicle, snow cones, Push-up pops, SCrewballs (with the gumball at the bottom), Strawberry shortcake, an oreo ice cream sandwich, or The Tweety Bird or Ninja Turtles ice cream, and of course the Choco Taco. the 90's ice cream truck options will always be my favorite and will be hard to replace these items.
The love for the choco taco is so strong that, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, who tweeted at Klondike’s parent company and stated: “I’d like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and keep it from melting away from future generations’ childhoods.”
The Choco Taco was coming close to its 40th year of existence, This delicious snack was invented in Philadelphia by Alan Drazen, a former ice cream truck driver, in 1983. Drazen says that Klondike had sold a billion Choco Tacos nationwide, or the equivalent of three Choco Tacos per person.
Hopefully someone keeps the choco Taco alive, because it will be a shame to see this nostalgic ice cream taco disappear, and for the younger generation not to enjoy this delicious dessert.
